This Official Postcrossing postcard is from Finland! This is a work by Linnea Ekstrand of Porvoo Cathedral, located in Porvoo, one of the six medieval towns of Finland (it’s down at the base of the country). This was a church that was built in the 15th century, and is still in use today for normal services. It’s received its fair share of fires, both from attacks in the 1500s and arson in 2006. Okay, so, can we just have a quick sidebar here? What is with these sorts of lovely buildings being set fire to at least once in their history? I feel like as I learn about all these sorts of landmarks, i always find “it was destroyed in a fire in XXXX” – like darn! I guess some people just want to see the world burn. (Thought of that one within the minute, proud of myself.) Anyway, tourists apparently see this church as bearing a very calming and serene vibe. And, this painting (this is a painting, right?) totally achieves that too! Thanks so much for this lovely postcard, Harriet!
