There are many reminders in this world of why life is an amazing thing. And buckeye bars sit near the top o’ the list! This is an Official Postcrossing card that came to me from Ohio! Ohio, abbreviated to OH (which is also the exclamation I uttered when I saw this gem in my mailbox) is known as the Buckeye State, which comes from its state tree, the buckeye. Around the mid-1900s is when the buckeye candy came about, which is made to look like the nut of a buckeye tree. Buckeye candies are balls of peanut butter fudge dipped in milk chocolate, with a small portion of the fudge still showing so that it resembles the buckeye nut. Coincidentally, I also think they look like discolored eyeballs… but we’re trying to make this post appetizing so I’ll skip the details on that. The recipe for the buckeye bars is based off of this candy. As you can see, this is comprised of chocolate and peanut butter, as well as a few other sweet ingredients. I think I’ve tried variations of this before but there’s always reason to give this recipe a try! The hardest part will be the “refrigerate for several hours”… sweets in my fridge don’t make it to see “several hours”. I’ll have to put a timer lock on it or something. Thank you tons for sending me this super postcard, Elizabeth!
