This Official Postcrossing card came to me from New York! We’ve got ourselves a glamorous view of Times Square, found in New York City. I did a post about a year and a half ago on Times Square:

– feel free to check it out! If you don’t feel like it, that’s okay… but I’m not writing anything new. Hmph. Totally kidding of course 😛 Lemme hit ya with a fun fact! You know those lovely, glitzy billboards that practically make Times Square? As a building owner, could you choose to not have one? In most cases, the answer would be “no”! There is a regulation titled “81-732 Special Times Square Signage Requirements”, made specifically for Times Square, that states that “[t]here shall be a minimum of one illuminated sign with a surface area of not less than 1,000 square feet [about 93 square meters] for each 50 linear feet [about 15 meters], or part thereof, of street frontage on Seventh Avenue or Broadway”. Seventh & Broadway sits at the intersection that serves as the heart of Times Square, just for your reference. So yeah, this zoning regulation exists, and it exists to uphold the iconic vibe of Times Square. Found this to be really interesting since you would think most regulations would be restrictive of this kind of stuff. But I get it! And it does its job! Thank you so much for sending me this awesome postcard, Maureen!
