They could’ve given me the world. But the world is not enough. So they sent me a postcard and that was all I needed! This is a postcard from the Netherlands! And yes, that was my lame attempt at mixing a James Bond quote into my post intro. Anyway, this is a postcard endorsing the James Bond film “The World Is Not Enough”, which came out in 1999. While many of the movies were based off of novels, this one has an original story, later to be adapted into a novel and a Nintendo 64 game (which I have not yet played, but I did play Goldeneye, and that was loads and loads of fun… and agony…) This film features Pierce Brosnan, the second-most recent Bond actor, and Sophie Marceau, who plays Elektra King. As a very short, spoiler-free synopsis, James Bond gets assigned to protect Elektra when the latter’s father, an oil tycoon, is assassinated by a terrorist (Renard, played by Robert Carlyle) who can’t feel pain due to a bullet that’s lodged in his brain. Things heat up when Renard plans to destroy a critical King pipeline, and James, with the help of Dr. Christmas Jones (played by Denise Richards – BTW I don’t know most of these actors…), seeks to confront and stop him. Along the way, however, James finds reason to question Elektra’s motives, particularly when James’ boss, M (played by Judi Dench) goes missing. That’s the best I can share for now – I don’t wanna get spoiled for it because I actually do wanna watch the Bond films eventually. I got the opportunity to see the Bond exhibit at the Washington D.C. Spy Museum a few years ago, and I thought that was so cool. Pair that with my Goldeneye gaming “experience”, and I think I have more than enough reason to watch the films. The fact that I haven’t seen a single one yet is shocking. Positively shocking. (Okay that’s not a TWINE quote but a Goldfinger one.) Thank you so much for sending me this awesome postcard, Carlinde!
